The first and most important step in your process of choosing a wedding planner is to Do Your Research!
Do your online research first! Before the first phone call, view various websites of local wedding planners and event consulting agencies you are interested in. Begin with a list of other friends and families or your local town magazine. If all else fails, do a quick Internet search for consultants in your local area, then check out their sites. They should, at the bare minimum, have a gallery of photos and some information on weddings they’ve done. Look for reviews and client testimonials.
Don’t simply trust “word of mouth” references!
A good consulting firm will have a blog as part of their website to post a broad range of their work. If you get a name by word of mouth and you can’t find out much about the person through a basic Internet search, you may want to skip that suggestion. You need to be able to see what you have to work with, and the truth is that in our technological age, we need to know that our wedding planner is just a click, or touch away. You will likely see on their site several reviews or testimonials. Keep in mind a testimonial can be faked, so be prepared to ask for a few client references.
Choose just two names (for now) that you feel could potentially have what it takes to make your day fabulous, then call to schedule a preliminary interview.
