4 Tips for Planning Your Summer Wedding in Colorado

If you’re having a summertime wedding, you’re probably envisioning a gorgeous, blue-sky day that’s like something out of a movie. In other words a sea of perfect; white roses everywhere you look, and your guests in high-fashion ensembles walking through the gardens with champagne glasses in their hands, remarking how this is the most beautiful wedding they’ve ever been to. Right? What you’re NOT envisioning is those same guests overheated, dehydrated and slumping in their chairs from the humidity, sweat pouring down your back, and hundreds of mosquitoes stuck in the icing of your perfect summer wedding cake… They’ll still love you and smile, even if they’ve never been so uncomfortable in all their lives. But don’t worry and don’t get stressed, for we will give you more summer morning wedding tips to help you plan the most important event of your life.

Indoor-Outdoor location

If you haven’t already booked your venue, look for a place that offers both outdoor and indoor party areas. Such as one with a fabulous ballroom and a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking manicured gardens, a golf course, or the mountains. Guests can decide if they want to be in the outdoor elements, or comfortable inside in the air conditioned building. If you have older or pregnant guests, it’s essential to provide a cooler environment option for all.

Weather smart decor

Instead of worrying about if  flowers will wilt, consider lanterns, candles, greens or other decor options that hold up better in the sun, the heat, the wind and don’t attract as many bugs… Lit candles actually keep bugs away, and some types of greens do as well.

Outdoor Party Lights

No bugs!

There are creative, elegant ways to keep bugs aways. Like using insect repellent lamps or torches, which make no zapping noises. Or add essential oils with scent of citronella, cinnamon, castor, rosemary, lemongrass, cedar, clove, geranium or peppermint. This will give a great mood to your party and will keep it a bug free zone. Oils can be added to candles, or be placed in burners. So much you can do that doesn’t have to cost you a fortune.

Pictures perfect

Don’t take your wedding pictures at noon or too close to noon—the sun will be directly overhead and will cause unflattering shadows. Photographers can deal with that, but they’ll have to haul more gear and that makes the process a lot slower. With that in mind, aim to take your pictures in the morning or later in the afternoon/evening. Consult with your photographer for best lighting and the best spots at the venue you choose. Or plan your photo shoot on a different date if you both don’t mind getting into your dress, hair and makeup twice.
