Hot Drinks for Winter Gatherings and How to Serve Them

warm drinks for winter parties
You may now miss the refreshing summer cocktails that you were sipping under the shade in your backyard, but instead of feeling nostalgic for the summer, let go and give in to the warm delicious treats which are created perfectly to help you face the winter.

Warm Your Body (and Soul) with These Delicious Hot Drinks

While some enjoy skiing, snowboarding or ice skating, others favorite activities include savoring hot cocktail drinks, Irish Coffee, Hot Chocolate or Cocoa, or Hot Rum. These are the standard hot stuff offered nearly everywhere. We can see why; they are all both very simple and delicious. But why not go for some variety now (and especially during the holiday season) and surprise your family guests with these hot treats.

Easy Hot Cocktails to Welcome Winter and the Holidays

Let’s warm up with something easier for a start.

Last Minute Mulled Wine requires some red wine (obviously), about 2/3 of a cup, warmed in a pan with little brandy or bourbon; then throw in some cinnamon sticks and/or star anise and you are ready for your friends’ quick visit at your place. Serve it in a tall glass mug with a slice of orange or some cranberries.

Jazz up things a bit with an Autumn Wassail. This bright red alcohol-fruity delight may be served hot or cold! Mix up apple cider and pomegranate juice in equal amounts, add some cognac, and just a dash of rum. Serve it in a tall glass with thin slices of green apple on top, and you get the perfect fall-winter drink with Christmas colors!

Love red wine and chocolate? Who doesn’t? If you are more into gourmet cocktails, then this Red Hot Wine Cocoa will become your liquid obsession. For the best taste, get dark chocolate finely chopped, a teaspoon of pure unsweetened cocoa and a teaspoon of brown sugar, a pinch of salt, a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon, and whisk them all together in a large saucepan. Then add 1/2 cup milk, bring it to simmer on low-medium heat, occasionally stirring for 2-3 minutes.  Remove from heat, and add the other star ingredient – red wine, about 1-4 cup. You don’t need expensive wine. We recommend Merlot, Shiraz or some other with strong fruity flavor to balance the bitter chocolate.  An opaque porcelain big mug is perfect for this drink.

Can’t give up on the coffee flavor? Add to your favorite coffee some chipotle and cinnamon for an extra spicy warmup in a beautiful copper mug that adds an elegant charm. Sprinkle some brown sugar on top of that or add marshmallows instead of sugar.
