3 Ways to Avoid Common Wedding Planning Mistakes

Your wedding doesn’t have to start your future in a financial crunch!

Your wedding day is not something that happens often, and you want it to be memorable in a good way. However, we understand that it can be a stretch for your budget and cause more stress than joy. So, here are a few ideas for your wedding planning that will serve you and your partner well!

Decide on your must-haves and allocate the bulk of your budget there. Then, choose the less essential items and allocate what is left. These become your priorities! Trust these suggestions from brides who made these mistakes in the past.

1: Consider the full cost of bridal apparel

‘Full’ means everything you both plan to wear that day, including intimate wear, undergarments, and the alterations (including two or three alterations). Everything underneath counts as bridal apparel. Not every professional dressmaker will charge the same for a wedding dress alteration. The boutique you purchased your dress from may offer a free service – otherwise, shop around.

Do you plan to change from your ceremony dress into a cocktail dress for the afterparty? Budget it. Do you expect to take off on your honeymoon in a unique outfit? How about honeymoon wear? If you intend to buy it, you need to plan to budget it!

Mini wedding cakes 2:  Don’t spend too much money on small things that add up quickly

Keep in mind that the tiny details you spend money on here and there, won’t make or break the special day. When you look back, will you think, “Wow, I sure am glad we went for the printed bar napkins,” or “the cute pastel-colored boxes of candies on the tables?” If you must give a wedding favor, choose wisely, and within your budget. The last thing you want is for half of your guests to leave the favor on the table. What are you going to do with 45 leftover jam jars or cake pops?

3:  Budget for “thank you” gifts

You will want to give your bridesmaids and groomsmen a little something to show appreciation, as well as your parents. The hunt for these gifts should begin early, and your budget should take it into account!  Make a list of everyone you need to buy for and stick to your budgeted amount. If you start buying without determining a set price for each gift, you may quickly realize your tab has reached a surprising number. Decide on a simple gift that will show your appreciation without leaving you further in debt only to say thanks. It’s acceptable to purchase the same thing for each of your bridesmaids and groomsmen, though you may want to go for something more personal for your parents.
