Some curious facts about the 4th of July

Even though in present time it is very normal for us to relax and enjoy the celebrations and this year’s long weekend, the Independence Day was not always like that. The U.S. Congress made it an unpaid federal holiday in 1870, but it wasn’t until 1941 when it was granted as a paid holiday to all federal employees.

Did you know that three U.S Presidents died on this date? In an incredible coincidence, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson died on the same day: July 4, 1826, at the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831.

On the contrary, Calvin Coolidge -the 30th President- was born on July 4, 1872, and so far he is the only President to have been born on Independence Day.

The largest firework display in the country happened in New York City on 2009, with over 22 tons of pyrotechnics exploded. Other major displays across the country are in Chicago on Lake Michigan, in San Diego over Mission Bay, in Boston on the Charles River, St. Louis on the Mississippi River, San Francisco over the San Francisco Bay and on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Make sure to be ready to commemorate our freedom and have the best 4th of July party ever!
